Gap - To have a baby
At 17 and not long after leaving school I became a young Mum. It's absolutely not something that I would recommend, but what I would say is that this is absolutely where my drive and determination came from - hitting rock bottom and wanting a better life.
Hairdresser , Self Employed , New Milton
I worked on Self Employed basis as a Colour Technician, having a baby meant that I needed flexibility, so I worked for several salons on a part time basis.
Gap - To study
Realising that it would take many years to be able to afford a salon of my own, I switched tact and decided to go back to College and obtain an HND, followed by a Degree. The method to my madness was that at the time I truly believed that no one would take a teenage mum seriously and this was my only option if I was to secure a high paid job.
